Intro to Mountaineering

- Varighed: 2 Dage (Ca.)
- Sted: Canterbury
- Produkt kode: ITM
Accommodation
Two nights of accommodation is provided at Fox Peak Ski Club Lodge. Full kitchen, bring your own pillowcase and sleeping bag.
Fitness
This is an introductory course, but the days are long and the terrain is steep and often snow-covered. You should be comfortable walking uphill for four to five hours carrying a 10kg pack, over rough, untracked ground. No previous mountaineering experience is needed — general tramping fitness is what matters. If you're unsure whether you're ready, get in touch before booking and we'll talk it through.
Access
Generally 2WD vehicle access to the lodge. Chains will not be required.
We will arrange transport from the lodge to the top of the road each day in a Peel Forest Outdoor Centre vehicle.
If snow is forecast to be below the lodge and chains or 4WD are needed, we will be in contact to arrange transport to the lodge from the valley floor.
Food
Bring food for two nights and two days — lots of hearty snacks, and a packed lunch for during the day. The lodge has good cooking facilities with an outside cool store.
Our Guarantee
No cancellations. We have many sites to choose from to help make our courses resilient, and we'll do our best to run no matter the conditions. In the unlikely event we have to postpone due to extreme weather, we'll find a date that works for you.
No stress. Feel like you need a bit more time to soak in the learning? We can arrange private instruction at a discounted rate to help you get that bit further, so you don't need to pay for another identical course.
Please note we require a minimum number to run this course effectively.
Safety
Outdoor adventure activities involve risks and hazards that are different from those of everyday life, and while Peel Forest Outdoor Centre works hard to minimise these risks, they cannot be eliminated entirely. For full information, please read our terms and conditions and our risk disclosure.
Gear
A full gear list, including what you need to bring and what we can provide, is in the course information sheet below. Technical and avalanche rescue equipment is provided.
Unfortunately, we are unable to supply boots.
Full Information
Full course details, including the gear list and daily timings, are in the Intro to Mountaineering course information sheet (PDF).
